Challenge
Tide tables are built for harbour masters. Swimmers read them on a phone, in sunlight, with wet thumbs, and mostly want one answer: when is the water high.
Approach
I drew the day as a single curve and built it in the browser the same week, so the first people to test it were swimmers on the beach, not people in a meeting. Every state was designed in code: no signal, stale data, a beach with no station.
Outcome
The forecast opens in 0.4 seconds on a mid-range phone and reads at arm’s length. The component library ships with the app and is used by the two engineers who maintain it.
